Something a little bit political...

Well the legs still don't want to run, walk and climb is fine, run makes them feel a bit leary ... Probably the two most contentious words in the congenital heart world (UK branch) are "safe and sustainable", a quick trawl of the support websites or facebook will show many a group being set up to save a hospital or a ward. I won't be joining any of them. Not because I don't care, but because I care too much. The origins of Safe and Sustainable go back to the Bristol Hospital Enquiry, and quite simply this is designed to ensure that the surgery that heart kids get is the the most appropriate, done by well trained and supported surgeons who are used to doing the operations and are in a surgical setting which are designed around the needs of the child going through the surgery and their family. Is that too much to ask? I don't think so. I want every heart kid to get the best surgery available to them, I want their parents to be given the best advice, support...

The day after a run, the night before the annual check up... Never gets easier!

Ugh... It's started... The inability to focus... The irrititableness ... The lack of sense of humour... The gnawing worry... The fear of the unknown... It's the night before my annual check up, if you checked my blood pressure it would be higher than normal... As much as I know, and have been told, that I'm fitter than I've ever been... Running PB's and climbing harder (both in terms of grade and endurance) should mean that I'm going in confident and proud of what I'm able to do... But I'm not! Why? I think I've worked it out, or at least part of it... I have little control over the dicky ticker, I can do the same things as everyone else to keep it healthy, but one day it might decide to get more dicky ... Lack of control is one of the main stressors in study after study.., and boy do I know it! So the plan for tomorrow, go and see my diabetic nurse for the results of my latest blood test (I have more control there, so even if the news isn't b...

Dark Days, a dodgy knee, the youngsters doing it for themselves and the next couple of runs!

Sorry for the gap between the blog posts... Be warned, this is one of those honest blogs I promised... Sometimes you get hit by news that throws you sideways, another GUCH I was close to died last weekend and it hurts. Three in a summer is not good, and there's no words I can say that describe that combination or sorrow and rage that I can't say what I should've said over the years and I wasn't a better friend. I hope all three of them would at this point have looked at me and told me to grow up stop being stupid, and to get on with it... Actually I'm fairly certain that 2 of them would and one would've just smiled and sighed at me! But life goes on, however painful their absences are, however much I'm going to miss the sage counsel, love of life and photography tutorials and all I hope is that some of what I do in my various roles would meet their approval. So to the running, or lack of it... I've no idea what I've done to my knee, bit its hurt lik...
